Weekly Release
The University of Nebraska at Omaha softball team will host its first home games of the season on Wednesday at Claussen-Westgate Field. The Mavericks will take on Wayne State (Neb.) in a double-header starting at 2 p.m. On Friday, March 27 UNO will travel to Pittsburg, Kan. to begin conference play against MIAA opponent Pittsburg State in a double-header. The first pitch is scheduled to be thrown out at 1 p.m. The Mavs will wrap up this weeks action on Saturday, March 28 when they travel to Joplin, Mo., to take on Missouri Southern in a double-header. The two game series will begin at 1 p.m.
The Records
The Mavericks improved their record to 20-5 on the season after beating Southwest Minnesota State twice, Minnesota Duluth, Massachusetts-Lowell, New Haven and Wayne State (Mich.) in the Rebel Spring Games. The Mavs two losses came at the hands of Adelphi and former North Central Conference rival Augustana (S.D.). Wayne State (Neb.) is 15-9 on the season including a 1-1 record on the road. UNO's second opponent of the week, Pittsburg State, is currently 6-2 at home and 18-13 overall. The Mavericks final opponent this week, Missouri Southern, is just 1-5 at home and 7-20 for the year.
The Coaches
#
Jeanne Scarpello# is in her tenth season as the UNO head coach. She entered the 2009 season just three wins shy of reaching 400 wins for her career. She reached that milestone in just the fourth game of the season when the Mavs defeated Saint Edward's on February 21. Her record now stands at 411-125-1 including four conference titles, nine straight trips to the NCAA Division II tournament, and a national championship in 2001. She is assisted by Michala Cimino (12th season), #
Cory Petermann# (9th season), and Steven Boulton (1st season).
Season Leaders

Katelyn Hinton# continues to lead the team in batting average (.321), hits (26), runs (16), RBIs (21) and home-runs (5). #
Beth Haley# leads the team in strike-outs with 65. #
Melissa Negrete#, who improved to 7-2, and #
Lindsey Slocum#, who remains undefeated at 7-0 are tied for the team lead in wins. Negrete is the team leader in era with a 1.07 earned run average.
The Series
UNO has the edge in the all time series against all of its foes this weekend. The Mavs lead the series against Wayne State (Neb.) 63-21. In the Pittsburg State, series the Gorillas trail the Mavericks by just six games, with a 4-10 all-time record versus UNO. Missouri Southern currently sits seven games back in the all-time series. The Mavericks are 14-7 against the Lions.
Coming Up
UNO will travel to Kearney, Neb. on March 31 to take on in state rival Nebraska-Kearney in a double-header at 2 p.m. The Mavericks then return home to host a pair of MIAA teams over the weekend. On Friday, April 3, UNO will square off against Emporia State in a double-header that will start at 2 p.m. On the following day, April 4, the Mavs will host Washburn in the final games of the week. The double-header against Washburn is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Both sets of home games will be held at Claussen-Westgate Field.
