EMPORIA, Kan. - Katelyn Hinton had three home runs and drove in six as the Mavericks won twice to start the Emporia State AAUW Showdown Friday afternoon. The Mavericks beat Southwestern Oklahoma State, 6-5 to start the even and then topped Southwest Baptist, 9-0 in five innings.

The Mavericks (11-3) will continue action at ESU Saturday against Tarleton State at 1:30 p.m. and Washburn at 4 p.m.
Hinton hit a two-run shot in the bottom of the sixth inning that proved to be the game-winner. The then had consecutive long balls against SBU with a three-run shot in the fourth and a solo shot in the fifth.

Lindsey Slocum won the opening game in the circle as she allowed eight hits with six strikeouts to improve to 4-0. Melissa Negrete won the second game as she pitched a one-hit shutout and struck out four.
