Box Score

OMAHA, Neb. – The University of Nebraska at Omaha hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie, but lost the shootout, 2-1, to the Western Michigan University Broncos Friday night at Qwest Center Omaha.

The Mavericks (13-10-7, 8-8-7-3 CCHA) pick up a point with the shootout loss, while the Broncos (7-15-7, 4-11-6-2) earn two points for the shootout win. This marks the second time this season UNO and WMU needed a shootout to determine the outcome, with the Mavericks beating the Broncos 2-0 in a shootout on Nov. 11 in Kalamazoo, Mich.

The score remained tied after the first period of action, despite UNO out shooting WMU 15-2.

WMU capitalized on its first power-play opportunity of the night early in the second frame, grabbing a 1-0 lead, on a goal from defensemen Tyler Ludwig 4:09 into the period.

The Mavericks fought back and tied the game with a power-play goal of their own. Sophomore #Matt Ambroz scooped up the rebound of a shot by Alex Hudson# and beat Riley Gill to tie the score at 1-1.

The third period played evenly, with UNO out shooting WMU, 14-9 in the period. The final four minutes of the frame were plagued by penalties, with five penalties called.

In overtime, neither team could produce much offense, with UNO holding a 2-1 shots on goal advantage, forcing the game into the shootout.

After #Jeremie Dupont# stoned Broncos' Cam Watson, #John Kemp# put UNO on top in the shootout, 1-0. WMU answered back as both Max Campbell and Kyle O'Kane each found the back of net, while UNO wasn't able to convert in their final three opportunities.

UNO held a dominating advantage in shots on goal, out shooting the Broncos 42-20 in the game.

The Mavericks and Broncos will continue their weekend series at the Qwest Center Omaha tomorrow night with a 7:05 p.m. face-off.
