FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The UNO hockey team poured in four goals in the third period to beat the Alaska Nanooks 5-3 on Saturday night at the Carlson Center.  It was the Mavericks' first road win in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, and it avenged a 4-3 loss to the Nanooks on Friday.

The Mavericks improve to 8-7-3 on the year and 5-7-2-1 in the CCHA while ending their three-game losing streak.  The Nanooks dip to 9-5-4 and 6-5-3-3 in league play.

With the game tied at one, UNO got its first lead of the game just 2:28 into the third period when #Joey Martin popped in the rebound of a Rich Purslow# shot for his sixth goal of the year.

Just 1:18 later, the Mavs' lead ballooned to 3-1 when #Mark Bernier finished off a sharp passing play by firing home a pass from Jeric Agosta# for his first goal of the year.  It was also the first goal since his freshman year for the Mavs' defensive defenseman.

#Nick Fanto took advantage of hard work by Dan Swanson# on the forecheck, wiring a shot past goalie Scott Greenham to make it 4-1.  Agosta followed with his seventh goal of the year to make it 5-1.

Alaska got goals from Dion Knelsen and Andy Taranto in the final five minutes to conclude the scoring.

The Nanooks seized the lead in the first period on a goal that had to be reviewed.  It was eventually ruled that the ricochet of Aaron Gens' slapshot crossed the goal line before defenseman #Pasko Skarica# could swipe it away, giving Alaska a 1-0 lead after one.

The Mavericks tied the game quickly in the second.  Martin won a face off in the Alaska zone and fed #Matt Ambroz# who one-timed a shot past Greenham.  It was the fourth goal of the season for Ambroz and his first even strength goal of the year.

The Mavericks now will step outside of the CCHA to play a home-and-home series with Minnesota State on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 18 and 19.  The Mavericks will visit Mankato on Friday for a 7:37 p.m. face-off.  They'll return home to conclude the pre-Christmas schedule by hosting Minnesota State on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at Qwest Center Omaha.
