OMAHA, Neb. – #Rich Purslow# scored two goals, and #Eddie DelGrosso# had a goal and an assist as the UNO hockey team beat Bowling Green 3-1 on Saturday night at Qwest Center Omaha. The win gives the Mavericks their first CCHA win of the season.
The Mavericks are now 4-0-2 on the year and 1-0-1-0 in CCHA play. They return to the road next week to take on the Michigan State Spartans on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 5 and 6 at 6:00 p.m. CT.
Purslow was at his best when he answered Bowling Green's biggest threat of the game. Just 32 seconds after Bowling Green's Jordan Samuels-Thomas had narrowed the Mavericks lead to 2-1 at 1:51 of the third period, Purslow whipped a wrist shot over the shoulder of goalie Andrew Hammond to restore the two-goal advantage. It was his team-leading fifth goal of the year.
The Mavericks took a 1-0 lead on a powerplay late in the first period. DelGrosso hit Purslow with a pass at the bottom of the left wing circle. Purslow's wrist shot squeezed between Hammond and the post to give Purslow his fourth goal of the year.
UNO scored another late goal in the second period. DelGrosso carried the puck through traffic before burying a wrist shot past Hammond to make it 2-0 after two.
#Jeric Agosta had two assists for the Mavericks and Jeremie Dupont# earned his first win of the season, stopping 15 shots as the Mavericks once again outshot Bowling Green heavily, 33-16.
