Box Score OMAHA, Neb. – The UNO hockey team earned a 3-3 tie with Bowling Green in it's first Central Collegiate Hockey Association game of the season, but the Falcons prevailed 1-0 in a shootout.
Jordan Samuels-Thomas scored the lone goal in the shootout for the Falcons, although he was not supposed to have participated because he had earned a roughing penalty with 16 seconds remaining in the overtime period and therefore was not supposed to be eligible. Game officials did not notice the error until after the outcome, and the result was allowed to stand.
UNO forced the shootout late in the third period. Trailing 3-2, the Mavericks pulled goalie #
John Faulkner and got the equalizer from Rich Purslow# who squeezed a sharp-angle shot past Falcons' goalie Andrew Hammond to make it 3-3.
Hammond was a difference maker all night. He stopped 43 shots in regulation and overtime and then turned aside all three UNO shooters in the shootout. He earned first star of the game honors.

Eric Olimb# opened the scoring with a powerplay goal, his first goal of the year, at 7:56.
Bowling Green responded later when Ryan Potacco tipped in a shot by James Perkin that just beat Faulkner.

Jeric Agosta# scored his team-leading fourth goal of the year on a powerplay at 16:29.
Samuels-Thomas tied the game on an early powerplay in the third period before Nathan Pageau scored even strength at 8:56 to give the Falcons their only lead of the game. In the process, both Samuels-Thomas and Pageau notched their first collegiate goals. They are the first third period goals surrendered by the Mavericks this season.
