OMAHA, Neb. - A season-high crowd of 10,111 was on hand Saturday night to watch as the tenth-ranked Miami University RedHawks stormed past the University of Omaha Mavericks 6-1 in the finale of their two-game Central Collegiate Hockey Association series at the Qwest Center Omaha.

The Mavericks were outshot 32-20 on the night, managing just eight shots through two periods of play and were plagued by penalties, spending a grand total of thirty-six minutes in the box and giving up four power-play goals on the night.

With the loss UNO falls to 13-9-5 and 8-7-5-3 in conference play while Miami improved 14-8-4 and 12-5-3-1 in CCHA action. UNO is now in a three-way tie for fourth place in the conference with Ohio State and Michigan.

The RedHawks wasted little time getting started, scoring less then three minutes into the game at 2:40 and adding two more to their total before the first intermission with goals at 12:06 and 14:03.

Miami would extend their lead to 4-0 after two periods of play and managed to open up a six goal lead midway through the third with goals at 4:14 and 14:39 of the final frame.

Sophomore Forward Matt Ambroz put the Mavericks on the board late, deflecting a Dan Charleston shot from the blue line past Connor Knapp at 16:48 of the third to cut the final deficit to 6-1.

UNO heads to Big Rapids, Mich. next weekend, Jan. 30-31, to take on the Ferris State University Bulldogs at the Ewigleben Ice Arena. Both games are set for 6:05 p.m. CST face-offs and will broadcast live on 1290 AM KKAR.
