FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The 20th-ranked University of Nebraska at Omaha Mavericks were shutout, 2-0, by the University of Alaska Nanooks in Central Collegiate Hockey Association action Friday night at the Carlson Center in Fairbank, Alaska.

Jeremie Dupont tied a season-high with 41 saves in the setback, giving up just two goals to the Nanooks Braden Walls, as the Mavs fall to 13-8-3 on the season and 8-6-3-2 in CCHA play. With the win the Nanooks move into a second place tie in the league with Miami at 9-7-3-2 and improved to 11-8-4 overall. The Mavericks now sit alone in fourth place, a single point in front of fifth place Ohio State.

The Mavericks and Nanooks skated to a pair of ties at the Qwest Center Omaha early this season, 0-0 and 1-1, neither team managing to get on the scoreboard until midway through the final period of that second contest.

It was a different story Friday, as Alaska needed just 3:23 to light the lamp. Walls' first goal of the night, an even-strength marker, gave the Nanooks a 1-0 lead.

UNO and UAF traded scoring chances in the second, skating to a virtual stalemate until a pair of Maverick penalties late in the period gave the Nanooks a five-on-three power play. Dupont made a number of spectacular saves, stoning a pair of point blank UAF shots. But the Nanooks managed to sneak one past a sprawling Dupont at 19:55 to take a 2-0 lead into the second intermission.

The Mavs applied early pressure in the final frame but were unable to find the net in the third, and for the second time in three meetings on the season the Nanooks shutout the Mavericks.

UNO and UAF will wrap up their two-game series Saturday night, with a 10:05 p.m. CST face-off at the Carlson Center in Fairbanks. The game will be broadcast live on 1290 AM KKAR radio and can be seen via the B2 Network.
