OMAHA, Neb. – Senior #Amanda Iwansky# scored a goal just three minutes into overtime to give the University of Nebraska at Omaha soccer team a 1-0 victory against MIAA foe Southwest Baptist Thursday evening at the UNO Soccer Field. With the win, UNO improves to 12-5-0 overall and 10-5-0 in the MIAA, while SBU falls to 9-5-3, 8-5-2 in the MIAA.
The only goal of the match came off a cross from #Mykala Hanson# who found an open Iwanksy in the middle of the box and put a shot on goal that beat SBU goalkeeper Mary Pearl in the 93rd minute.
Despite the cold and windy conditions, UNO managed to out-shoot SBU 12-6, including a 8-5 edge in shots on goal.
The duo of goalkeepers #Elizabeth Odorisio and Lauren Fox# combined for five saves to lead the Mavericks to their third straight shutout. Odorisio collected two saves in the first half, including a key save on a Bearcat breakaway where she was able to deflect the shot out of bounds. Fox made three saves in the second half and overtime periods.
The Mavericks will conclude their regular season on Saturday, Nov. 8 when they host the reigning MIAA Champions, Central Missouri, on Senior Day. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m. at the UNO Soccer Field.
