OMAHA, Neb. – Freshman forward #Alex Hudson# scored his first two career goals to lead the University of Nebraska at Omaha hockey team to a 3-1 win over Mercyhurst College Friday night at Qwest Center Omaha.

With the win, the Mavericks improve to 3-0-0 on the season, while Mercyhurst drops to 0-5-0

Hudson opened the scoring just two minutes into the game on a feed from #John Kemp and beat Lakers' goalkeeper Matt Lundin# for the early 1-0 lead.

UNO would tack on another first period goal when #Matt Ambroz took Pasko Skarica#'s pass off the wall and beat Lundin over his shoulder for a shorthanded goal at 8:01 in the first frame.

The Lakers cut the Mavericks' lead in half late in the first period when Mercyhurst forward Ryan Toomey scooped up a loose puck in front of the Mavericks net and beat #Jeremie Dupont# at 16:09.

After playing a scoreless second period, Hudson netted a much needed insurance goal in the third period when he took a pass from Kemp and #Joey Martin# and beat Lundin on a delayed penalty at 14:33.

The Mavericks used a relentless offensive attack, out-shooting the Lakers by a decisive 41-23 advantage, including a 17-7 edge in the final frame of action.

Making his second start of the season between the pipes, Dupont turned in another solid effort collecting 22 saves for his second win of the season.

UNO will continue its series with Mercyhurst on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m.
