RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Omaha Women's Tennis closed out its nonconference schedule with a 5-2 win at UC Riverside on Saturday.
Omaha (10-8) secured the win against UC Riverside (3-14) with sophomore Katelynn Kock's (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) win in the No. 3 singles flight. Kock took the first set 6-3 against UCR's Camille Li. Li evened the score with a 6-4 win in the second before Kock took the match by the same margin in the third. Kock leads the Mavs with 13 singles wins this spring.
Sophomore Nina Wiese (Flushing, N.Y.) also played a three-set match. In the No. 2 singles match, Wiese fell 6-4 in the first set to Kei Kato from UC Riverside. The Mav came back to win the next two sets 7-5, 6-3 for her 12th singles win of the dual season.
Junior Khayli Buckels (Ballwin, Mo.) won her ninth match of the season with a 7-5, 6-2 win in the No. 1 flight over UCR's Ramey Yu.
In doubles, Wiese and Kock extended their doubles win streak to 11 matches with a 6-0 victory in the No. 1 flight.
"Fantastic win to end our road trip," head coach Adam Summitt said. "It was another extremely hot day and the conditions were tough. We competed much better in the heat than we did on Thursday. I thought Khayli (Buckels) did an extremely good job today versus a tough opponent. Nina (Wiese) responded well after losing the first set. Katelynn (Kock) came up very clutch for us. She dropped the second set, was down 2-0 in the third, then just rallied to clinch it for us."
The Mavericks will welcome St. Thomas at 11 a.m. CT on Friday, March 27 and Oral Roberts at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday, March 28 to open conference play. Both matches are scheduled to be played outside at Koch Tennis Center, weather permitting.
