NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Omaha Women's Tennis fell to CSUN, 4-1, in the first match of its west coast swing on Thursday.
The Mavs (9-8) won the doubles point to open the match, but it would end up being their only point of the day against the Matadors (8-6).
Junior Khayli Buckels (Ballwin, Mo.) and senior Sumer Shannon (Plano, Texas) defeated CSUN's Satsuki Ishikawa and Madison Shepperson, 6-1, in the No. 3 match to secure the point for the Mavs. Sophomores Nina Wiese (Flushing, N.Y.) and Katelynn Kock (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) won the No. 1 match, 6-3, over Angela Ho and Nicole West.
"CSUN is a really good, disciplined team," head coach Adam Summitt said. "The conditions were very hot for us, and we had a tough time adjusting to the heat and our opponents. We started strong in doubles. We just could not close out sets in singles. We had four singles matches where the first set was within reach, but we did not convert, and the momentum flipped. That was the deciding factor in our results. We must try to be better on Saturday against a tough UC Riverside team in the same weather conditions."
