ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Omaha Women's Tennis defeated Lindenwood, 5-2, on the road on Friday afternoon.
Senior Summer Shannon (Plano, Texas) clinched the match for the Mavericks (8-7) with her win over Mathilde Humbert from Lindenwood (3-3). The match went into extra games in the first set, and Shannon battled to a 7-5 win to take the set. She fell 6-3 in the second, before coming back to take the third 6-2 and win the match for Omaha.
Junior Khayli Buckels (Ballwin, Mo.) also pushed her match into a third set. Lindenwood's Fabiana Labrador won the first set in a tiebreaker 7-6 (4). Buckels stormed back in the second set to win 6-0 before sealing the match with a 6-3 win in the third.
"Great effort today to pick up our first true road win of the year," head coach Adam Summitt said. "The conditions were tough for our first outdoor match of the year. We have not had any real practices outside, so I did not know what to expect. We battled and competed in some ugly conditions. I'm proud of Summer Shannon for being a leader today to get the clinch in singles."
The Mavs are back tomorrow to face Saint Louis at 12 p.m. CT in St. Louis.
