SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Omaha Women's Tennis defeated Montana, 6-1, in a neutral-site match in Sioux Falls, S.D.
The Mavericks (3-5) fought hard against the Griz (1-4) with three singles and two doubles matches needing extra games or a tiebreaker to be decided.
Sophomore Nina Wiese (Flushing, N.Y.) needed extra games in the first set of the No. 2 singles match which she won 7-5 over Montana's Meghna Anand. Wiese went on the win the second set 6-3.
Senior Jacqueline Pearsall (Centennial, Colo.) closed out her match in the No. 4 flight with a 7-6 (7) win in the second set after winning the first set 6-4 over Montana's Paige Bott.
Junior Khayli Buckels (Ballwin, Mo.) and senior Summer Shannon (Plano, Texas) secured the doubles point for the Mavs with a 7-6 (2) win in the No. 3 doubles match over Montana's Shivika Agrawal and Monika Fizova.
"Great win today," head coach Adam Summitt said. "Proud of the effort and attitudes we had throughout the match. We did not play the cleanest doubles, but came through at the end. I felt we had a shift in singles and really controlled the momentum. Montana is a fiesty team and we did a good job handling our composure throughout. Looking forward to a month at home."
The Mavericks will host Missouri State on Friday, Feb. 13 and Northern Iowa on Saturday, Feb. 14. Both matches will be played at Miracle Hill Tennis Center. Live streams and live scoring will be available for both.
