FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Omaha split a pair of softball games Friday at the Woo Pig Classic, falling 6-5 to Kansas before bouncing back for a 7-2 win over Charlotte.
Omaha (13-3) hit four home runs on the day, with center fielder Marra Cramer finishing with a two-homer, five-RBI afternoon against Charlotte.
Against Kansas, Omaha took a 3-2 lead in the third inning on a two-run home run by Bailey Sample. It was Sample's second homer in two days.
After the Jayhawks rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fourth, including two unearned runs, Omaha mounted a rally of its own in the sixth.
Two walks and a Sammy Schmidt single loaded the bases with no outs before Alyson Edwards delivered a two-run double to center to make it 6-5. But with the tying run at second base, Kansas got out of the jam with a line-drive double play to the third baseman.
Alexis Wiggins (5-1) worked into the fourth inning and took her first loss of the season.
Omaha continued to show power at the plate against Charlotte (12-6).
Cramer gave the Mavericks a 1-0 lead with a solo homer in the second inning.
After Charlotte hit a two-run home run in the top of the third, Omaha answered with a two-run blast from Taylor Sedlacek in the bottom of the third. Sedlacek has a team-best seven homers this month.
Cramer added a sacrifice fly in the third to make it 4-2, then the center fielder capped a huge afternoon with a three-run homer to right field.
Maddia Groff went the distance to improve to 4-2 on the season as she scattered seven hits and struck out seven.
Omaha will play two more games in the tournament Saturday, facing Boise State and seventh-ranked Arkansas.
