OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha Women's Tennis battled Creighton on Sunday afternoon but fell short in a 4-3 road loss. 

The Mavericks (6-6) opened the day strong with a win in doubles. Sophomores Nina Wiese (Flushing, N.Y.) and Katelynn Kock (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) defeated Annika Elvestrom and Olivia Minikel, 6-1, to earn their ninth doubles win of the spring. It was their fifth in a row. 

Both Wiese and Kock won their respective singles matches. In the No. 2 flight, Wiese fought back to force a third set in the No. 2 match against Creighton's Mithila Dixit. Dixit took the first set 6-2, before Wiese came back to win the second by the same margin. Wiese took the final set 6-4. 

Kock was the first singles match done for the day with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Teresa Tran from Creighton. She leads the team in singles victories with eight this spring. 

"Disappointing result today," head coach Adam Summitt said. "We just did not match Creighton's energy. Creighton played with a sense of desperation and hunger today. You could tell who wanted it more and who did not." 

"I'm proud that our doubles teams have been clicking and coming out hot. That is an area we are confident in, and it shows. We just have to learn from this to be better and prepare for conference play." 

The Mavs will get a week off before hosting Chicago State on Friday, March 6, at Miracle Hills Tennis Center. Play will begin at 11 a.m. CT. Live stats and a live stream will be available.
