OMAHA, Neb. (Feb. 16, 2026) - For the first time ever, Omaha Softball has been tabbed No. 1 in the D1 Softball Mid-Major Ranking, it was revealed Monday. The Mavericks (9-0) are off to the best start in DI program history and move up a pair of spots to the top ranking after a stellar five-game weekend in San Diego.
Omaha has now won 11 straight regular-season games dating back to last season.
The Mavericks are one of only eight Division I squads to be undefeated through the first two weeks of the 2026 campaign. Omaha is one of only three mid-majors, joining Grand Canyon and ETSU, to be unbeaten in 2026.
Mike Heard's team is one of six programs in the nation to record eight or more wins without a loss.
Up four spots in the Massey Ratings to 26, Omaha has been an offensive power in the opening stanza of the season. The Mavs have combined for 17 home runs through nine games, with four each coming from
Taylor Sedlacek and
Katherine Johnson. Johnson has found a way in 27 recorded at-bats to bring in a team-leading 15 RBI.
Johnson is also one of six Mavericks to start in each of the first nine games this season.
Marra Cramer has seven extra-base hits this season, six doubles and one home run. Her six doubles are good for eighth in the nation.
Ava Rongisch is one of only 62 players in DI to record at least two triples this season. She is the only player in the Summit to do so.
In five games at the USD/UC San Diego Tournament, Omaha outscored opposing teams 43-4 (+39). On the season, Omaha is outscoring the opposition 90-22. The Mavericks are one of two Summit League teams to score 90 runs (South Dakota State). No other Summit League member has more than 74. The 90 total runs tie Omaha and SDSU for the national lead among mid-majors.
In the circle, Omaha has shown its depth with Heard turning to four arms in 55 innings. The Mavericks have walked just eight batters in 211 at-bats faced against 56 strikeouts, good for the nation's best strikeout-to-walk ratio at 7.0.
Alexis Wiggins leads Maverick pitchers with a 1.91 ERA through six appearances with a pair of starts. The senior has held opposing batters to a .212 average at the plate, the second best in the conference.
A third of Omaha's wins this season have come via shutout, the most in the Summit League. Omaha has won five games by way of the eight-run rule this season.
Defensively, Omaha has recorded 203 chances against just two errors in nine games for a fielding percentage of .990. Omaha has turned three double plays.
The Mavericks return to action on Friday, Feb. 20 at 8:30 a.m. CT when Omaha faces Kennesaw State in the first of five games in Troy, Alabama.
