SAN DIEGO - Bailey Sample and
Taylor Sedlacek each drove in five runs in leading Omaha Softball to an 18-2 win over FDU Sunday during the final day of the USD/UCSD tournament.
Sample and Sedlacek hit three-run home runs as Omaha improves to 9-0 through the first two weekends of the season.
Omaha set the tone with five runs in the top of the first inning.
Rylinn Groff led off the game with a single and Sedlacek was hit by a pitch before Sample smacked a three-run homer. Later in the inning,
Ava Rongisch added an RBI triple and she scored on
Rylee White's single.
Sedlacek hit her three-run homer to left field in the fourth inning. White added a bases-loaded walk,
Haley Wilwerding hit a sacrifice fly and Rongisch scored on a passed ball as Omaha led 11-2 in the fourth.
Then during a seven-run fifth,
Katherine Johnson hit a two-run homer to center, Sedlacek had a two-run double and Sample added a two-run single. Groff, Sedlacek and
Marra Cramer each scored three runs on the day.
Johnson and Sedlacek have four home runs apiece this season as Omaha has 17 homers as a team through nine games.
Grace Hornbuckle went the first four innings to improve to 3-0 as she scattered six hits and struck out seven.
It was the second straight day Omaha got a win over FDU as the Mavericks won 14-0 over the Knights Saturday.
Omaha next heads to Troy, Alabama, to play five times in three days beginning on Friday.
