TROY, Ala. — Omaha's perfect start to the 2026 softball season took on an additional meaning Friday.
The unbeaten Mavericks (11-0) opened play at a tournament in Troy, Alabama, with a perfect game in a 7-0 win over Kennesaw State. Omaha followed that with a 10-0, five-inning victory over Furman.
Maddia Groff, Alexis Wiggins and Alyson Edwards combined on the perfect game. Groff faced 10 batters, Wiggins faced five and Edwards pitched the final two innings.
It marked the sixth perfect game thrown by the Mavericks since 2000. Groff, in her second season with the Mavericks, has been part of three of those games.
Wiggins and Grace Hornbuckle combined on a one-hitter against Furman. The only hit allowed was a leadoff single in the bottom of the first inning, after which they retired the final 11 batters in a row.
While Omaha's pitchers dominated, center fielder Marra Cramer led the way at the plate, driving in seven runs and recording the go-ahead RBI in both wins. She has a team-best nine extra-base hits this season.
Omaha used two home runs in the third inning to break a scoreless tie and take control against Kennesaw State.
Cramer put Omaha on the board with a three-run homer, and three batters later Edwards hit a two-run blast. Edwards has three homers in 11 at-bats this season. Omaha added runs in the next two innings on a Sammy Schmidt sacrifice fly and a bases-loaded walk drawn by Katherine Johnson.
Through the first three innings against Furman, every Omaha starter had at least one hit as the Mavericks continued to show offensive balance throughout the lineup.
Cramer started the scoring with a two-run double in the first inning. Johnson had a two-run single in the second before Omaha added five runs in the third.
That included a two-run home run to center by freshman Hailey Boltz. Omaha has hit 20 homers in its 11 games, and Boltz is the ninth Maverick to homer. Cramer capped the five-run third with a two-run single.
Omaha's 11-0 record is the best in Division I program history and is tied for the third-best start in program history — the 2002 team began 20-0.
Omaha also is one of 12 Division I teams to score at least 100 runs this season.
Omaha continues play in Alabama on Saturday with games against Nicholls and Troy.
