SAN DIEGO - Omaha Softball opened the USD/UCSD tournament by rolling to wins over Utah Tech, 9-2, and Southern Utah, 9-0, on Friday.
Omaha's offense put pressure on its opponents all day as the Mavericks scored in 10 of the 11 innings they batted. Omaha compiled eight extra-base hits, four in each game.
In the first game, the Mavericks scored in every inning as they cruised past Utah Tech.
Omaha got solo home runs from
Taylor Sedlacek and
Marra Cramer. It was the second home run this season for Sedlacek, who transferred after playing three seasons at Wichita State, and the 36th homer of her career.
Omaha also got two RBI apiece from
Katherine Johnson and
Bailey Sample.
Maddia Groff worked the first 4.2 innings to earn the win as she allowed two hits and struck out five.
Omaha put the second game away by scoring three times in the third inning and four times in the fifth.
Cramer drove in three runs against Southern Utah with a pair of doubles.
Rylee White also drove in three runs, while Sample scored three times.
Grace Hornbuckle worked the first four innings to win a game that ended after five innings because of the run-rule. Hornbuckle allowed three hits in her four innings.
Omaha, off to a 6-0 start for the first time in coach
Mike Heard's tenure, will play two more games Saturday in San Diego as the Mavericks will face FDU and Boise State.
