OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha Women's Basketball fell to North Dakota, 75-54, on the road Thursday night.
The Mavericks (2-16, 0-3 Summit League) led at the end of the first quarter, 16-15, but fouls bogged down the Mavericks as the Fighting Hawks (4-12, 1-2) pushed forward for the win.
Omaha shot 36.4% from the field and only went to the line eight times against the Fighting Hawks. The home team tallied 25 total free throws.
Junior
Ali Stephens (Fort Wayne, Ind.) had a season-high of 15 points for the Mavericks with three 3-pointers and five total field goals. Stephens played for approximately 33 minutes, her most minutes since Dec. 6.
Freshman
Elsa Vedral (Omaha, Neb.) was next up on the scoresheet with nine points. Vedral also hit three shots from the arc and attempted six to tie her career high.
Freshman and national total rebounds leader
Avril Smith (Omaha, Neb.) recorded eight boards against the Fighting Hawks to bring her season total to 190.
Another freshman,
Leekaya Burke Perryman (Colorado Springs, Colo.) tallied four steals to lead the game and get a season high.
The road trip through North Dakota continues Saturday with an afternoon matinee against North Dakota State at 1 p.m. The game will be streamed on the Summit League Network and broadcast on 1180 AM in Omaha as well as the Varsity Network.
