ITHACA, N.Y. - Jérémy Loranger scored a pair of goals for Omaha Hockey, but for the second straight night No. 17 Cornell scored the tie-breaking goal in the third period as the Mavericks fell 3-2 Saturday night.
Loranger, a freshman forward, has scored goals in four consecutive games.
His goal midway through the second period made it 2-2, but Cornell scored the deciding goal with 15:30 left. Omaha put six shots on goal in the final five minutes but Cornell maintained the lead.
Much like Friday's series opener, Omaha (7-13) dug itself a hole early on.
Omaha trailed 3-0 10 minutes in Friday's game before dropping a 6-4 decision. The Mavs found themselves trailing 2-0 midway through the first period Saturday.
But 47 seconds after Cornell (9-4) took its 2-0 advantage, Omaha cut its deficit in half as Loranger scored on the power play.
Luke Woodworth delivered a pass to Loranger, who rifled a shot from the face-off circle.
But Loranger wasn't done. Midway through the second period, he scored on a similar shot to what he did a period before. His one-timer from the face-off circle made it 2-2 with 8:28 left in the period.
Omaha made a push to grab the lead. It had four shots on goal in the first two minutes of the third period, but it was Cornell's Jonathan Castagna who broke the tie.
Omaha had a 27-25 advantage in shots on goal, including 12-4 in the third period.
Dawson Cowan finished with 22 saves for Omaha.
Omaha returns to conference play on Friday when it hosts St. Cloud State.
