OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha Hockey scored six consecutive goals, erasing an early deficit while rolling past (RV) St. Cloud State 6-2 Friday night at Baxter Arena.
Omaha got goals from six players as it matched its season high for goals in a game.
It was the fifth time in the past six games that Omaha (8-13, 4-7 NCHC) has scored at least four goals.
St. Cloud State (10-11, 3-8) put Omaha in a 2-0 hole 11 minutes into the game before the Mavs stormed back.
St. Cloud took advantage of an Omaha penalty, scoring 40 seconds after the Mavs were called for interference. Less than four minutes later, St. Cloud added another goal at the 9:05 mark.
Cowan shut out the Huskies over the last 49 minutes as he finished with 28 saves. That included a sprawling stop on a scramble in front of the net midway through the third period.
With four minutes left in the first, St. Cloud goalie Patriks Berzins tried to clear a loose puck. But Omaha's
Maxime Pellerin collected the puck, skated in and lined in his team-best seventh goal of the season.
Omaha made it 2-2 at the first intermission as
Spencer Sova unleashed a shot from the blue line to the back of the net. It was the freshman's second goal this season.
The Mavericks grabbed a 3-2 lead midway through the second period on a goal set up a pair of crisp passes.
Following a face-off in the St. Cloud zone,
Samuel Huo hit Jeremy Loranger with a pass and then Loranger found
Trevor Wong racing toward the goal. Wong's one-timer beat Berzins for his third goal of the season.
Omaha scored its fourth unanswered goal with 5:32 left in the second.
Cameron Mitchell's initial shot was blocked by Berzins, but
Marcus Nguyen scored on the rebound for his sixth goal.
Omaha tacked on more insurance less than five minutes into the third period with a power-play goal.
Marc Lajoie's pass from behind the net found Huo, who scored his fourth goal this season.
Sean Tschigerl added an empty-netter with 7:42 remaining.
Omaha and St. Cloud State wrap up their series beginning at 7 p.m. CT Saturday.
