OMAHA, Neb. – In a hard-fought midweek clash, Omaha women's soccer came up short in Des Moines on Wednesday night, falling 2-1 to Drake. The Mavericks move to 2-2-2 overall (0-0-0 Summit).
- In the 22nd minute, Drake took a shot from the far-left corner, but Omaha goalkeeper Hayley Ogden (Lehi, Utah) made a save to keep the match scoreless.
- Six minutes later, the Mavericks nearly broke through when graduate forward Payten Ivins (West Haven, Utah), fired just over the crossbar.
- Drake's Lauren Kullberg put the Bulldogs ahead in the 40th minute, but Omaha answered two minutes later with an own goal forced by Lauren Schmidt's pressure on the Drake defense.
- The teams entered halftime tied at 1, but just one minute into the second half Zoey Mahoney put Drake back on top, 2-1.
- The Mavericks had 4 shots on goal, while Drake led with 5.
The Mavericks return to the pitch on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. CT in Norman, Oklahoma, to face No. 19 Oklahoma.
