Men’s and Women’s swim and dive both in second place after one day of Summit League Championships

Feb 20, 2025

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Omaha Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving sit in second place in the overall team standings after its first day of competition on Wednesday at the Summit League Championships at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center.

After a successful day in the water, the Mavericks head into day two of the four-day event hosted by the conference with 16 members of the All-Summit League team.

Junior Bella Price set the tone for a successful Omaha day, placing third in the women's one-meter dive with a score of 262.40.

Seniors Gracie Streblow, Jillian Altmaier and sophomores Julia Thomas and Leah Spencer scored a 1:42.09 to finish third in the women's 200-yard medley relay event.

The Maverick men also finished third in the 200-yard medley relay, with a time of 1:28.20, courtesy of juniors Stefan Varga, Mason Schroeder and Jace Walker. Senior Owen Hoak capped off the relay unit.

Much of the Mavericks' solid performance came from relay events, with Omaha breaking school records in two of these events.

Omaha's women's 800-yard freestyle relay, which consisted of seniors Hailey Matthews and Payton Easley and juniors Thomas and Spencer, broke a school record with a time of 7:28.00. This time was also good enough to place them third and make the All-Summit League team.

While the men's 800-yard freestyle team did not place in the All-Summit league team, sophomore Kyle Kulow, juniors Michael Johnson and Grant Schaeffer and freshman Aidin Kolb set a new school record with a time of 6:39.35.

Senior Ian Blackstock, sophomore Will Mueller and freshman Owen Kipp helped the men's diving team take second place in the team springboard event with a score of 314.85.

Omaha will be back in the water for day two's preliminaries of the Summit League Championships beginning at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20, at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center.
