LINCOLN, Neb. – Omaha Women's Basketball started hot against No. 24 Nebraska, but ultimately fell 87-35 on Tuesday night.
The Mavericks (1-9) struck first against the No. 24 Huskers (10-0) and held the lead for the first 4:30 of the game. The Huskers tied the game 10-10 with approximately four minutes left in the first quarter and held the lead for the rest of the night.
The Mavs shot 33.30% from the field with only one made 3-pointer and four made free throws on the night.
Graduate
Sarai Estupiñan (Cedar Park, Texas) scored 10 points to lead the Mavs and secure her seventh game scoring in the double figures this season.
Omaha's freshmen continue to shine with
Avril Smith (Omaha, Neb.) once again leading the Mavs in rebounding with five on offense and six on defense. It was her fifth game hitting double digits on the boards.
Another freshman,
Leekaya Burke Perryman (Colorado Springs, Colo.), spent the most time on the hardwood for Omaha with exactly 30 minutes out for the Mavericks.
Omaha will head to Western Illinois on Saturday to face the Leathernecks at 1 p.m. CT.
