LINCOLN, Neb.- Omaha Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving opened the 2025-26 season Saturday at the Devaney Center, competing against host Nebraska and South Dakota State. Both the men's and women's teams snagged wins over South Dakota State, but the women's team fell to Nebraska in dual scoring.

The men's team secured 168 points over South Dakota State who tallied 133. Freshman Nathan Frette opened his collegiate career in a major way with a record in the 1-meter diving event with a score of 322.15. The Mavericks swept the podium with sophomore Owen Kipp finishing second and freshman Stone Larson in third. Kipp and Frette emerged again in the 3-meter diving with a first and second place finish, respectively. Freshman Brecken Moran took third for another podium sweep.

Omaha men also swept the podium in the 50-meter freestyle. Freshman Mason Zadina took first with a time of 21.02. Senior Michael Johnson took second and senior Adnan Kabuye took third. Johnson won the 100-meter freestyle with senior Grant Schaeffer in second and sophomore Aidin Kolb in third.

The women's team defeated South Dakota State with a score of 217 to 83, but lost to Nebraska with a score of 200 to 99. Freshman Addisyn Storms brought home the only event win for the women's team in the 200-meter breaststroke. Storms finished with a time of 2:21.19 to open her collegiate career.

"We weren't quite sure what this meet was going to look like with 18 seniors departing last year and bringing in 20 incomers," said head coach Jessica Hessel. "This group went out racing like a veteran team with no fear. Getting wins for both the men and women against a conference opponent to start the season is a bonus but what's most important is to get back to work and stay focused on the ultimate goal of our season. I'm looking forward to seeing what this group can do."
Omaha returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 4, hosting Rockhurst at the H&K Pool on-campus. The dual begins at 12:30 p.m. CT.
