OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha Volleyball dropped a five-set battle, 3-2, to South Dakota at home on Saturday afternoon.
The Mavericks (4-10, 1-4) took the first set comfortably with a 25-21 win over the Coyotes (11-6, 3-2). South Dakota came back to take the second set with a score of 25-20 and the third set with a score of 25-23. Omaha clawed its way back from a seven-point deficit to take the fourth set 25-23. In the fifth, the Coyotes showed their teeth and won 15-9 to claim the victory.
Sophomore Alizabeth Jacobson (Neola, Iowa) shined against the Coyotes. The outside hitter set three career highs with 16 kills, 19.5 points and seven total blocks. Jacobson led the Mavericks in kills, points and she finished the match with a team-high attack percentage of .593.
Junior
Emily Huss (Fairbury, Neb.) tallied eight assisted blocks with two solo blocks for a total of 10. She was one short of tying her career high. Senior
Kali Jurgensmeier (Wahoo, Neb.) lent her hand to the defense with a career-high 18 digs.
The Mavericks front line did not go down without a fight. Omaha recorded a season-high 17 blocks over South Dakota's 11. Both teams had two solo blocks, but the Mavs tallied a season-high 30 assisted blocks to the Coyote's 18.
Omaha will head on the road for a three-match stint. The Mavericks will start their trip at Oral Roberts on Thursday, Oct. 16 before heading to Denver on Saturday, Oct. 18. Their trip will conclude at Kansas City on Tuesday, Oct. 21. All three contests will stream on the Summit League Network.
