Depleted Mavs fall at Denver in Summit League play

Returns home to host KC Roos Saturday

DENVER -  Playing in the Mile High City without two injured starters, the Mavericks weren't able to overcome a slow start, falling to Denver 71-56 Wednesday night in Summit League play. Omaha (9-10, 1-5) looks to snap a five-game losing streak Saturday afternoon at home against Kansas City.

The Pioneers (8-12, 1-6) put it all together in outscoring the Mavericks 42-22 in the opening half, making 16 of 31 shots from the field. Omaha was playing without their leading scorer Ja Harvey (day-to-day) and third-leading scorer Cora Olsen (knee, status undetermined).

Omaha was led by senior Grace Cave with 19 points, the 14th time she has led the Mavs in scoring this season. Freshman Harriet Ford came off the bench and scored 12 points on 5-10 shooting, grabbing 7 rebounds. Senior Aaliyah Moore also snagged seven boards, scoring 11 points.

Denver's Jordan Jones led all scorers with 24 points and 9 rebounds, surpassing the 1,000 point scoring plateau in the process.

Omaha returns home to Baxter Arena Saturday, January 25, at 1:00 p.m. CT against Kansas City. The game can be heard on the Omaha Sports Network from Learfield via The Varsity app/website, and over the air on 1180 The Zone 2 (KZOT), starting with the FNBO pregame show at 12:45 p.m. CT. Tickets for all Mavericks home games can be purchased at OMavs.com/tix.
