OMAHA, NEB. - Omaha's woes in Summit League play continued at home, as the Mavericks fell 67-53 to St. Thomas in women's basketball Saturday.
The Mavericks (9-9, 1-4) have dropped four straight league games and two in a row at Baxter Arena for the first time this season. St. Thomas (9-9, 1-4) picked up its first conference win of the campaign.
Despite trailing most of the game, the Mavericks twice cut the Tommies' lead to three points early in the fourth, first on a
Ja Harvey fast break layup and then on a
Morgann Gardner three, assisted by
Grace Cave. But they couldn't overcome a miserable shooting night overall, making just 34.5% of their shots, including 1-12 from behind the three-point line.
Senior guard Harvey led Omaha with 16 points, playing more than 36 minutes, adding 2 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocked shots. Senior
Aaliyah Moore, in the starting lineup for the second straight game, made 5-10 shots from the floor en route to a 14 point effort. She grabbed a team-high 7 boards, all on the offensive end, but the Mavericks were outrebounded 40-26. Sophomore
Cora Olsen and senior Cave each added 7 points.
St. Thomas had four players in double figures, led by Jo Langbehn with 18 points.
The Mavericks look to bounce back on the road Wednesday night at Denver. Tip-off is 7:00 p.m. CT. All Summit League games, home and away, are televised on The Summit League Network.
