OMAHA, NEB. - For the second straight game the Mavericks saw a close game slip away in the fourth quarter, losing 81-67 at Baxter Arena Thursday night. It was Omaha's third straight Summit League loss, and NDSU's sixth straight win.
The Mavericks led 56-53 late in the third quarter on a
Grace Cave layup, assisted by
Katie Keitges, and entered the fourth with a one point lead. But NDSU (12-5, 4-0) turned up the pressure inside down the stretch, outscoring Omaha (9-8, 1-3) 26-11 in the final frame, including 20-2 in the paint, en route to the win.
Cave finished with a season-high 22 points (9-17 FG, 2-5 3PT, 4 reb., 2 assists, 2 steals).
Ja Harvey was the only other Maverick in double figures with 13 points (3-3 3PT, 6 reb., 2 assists, 1 steal). Omaha has dropped three in a row for the first time since November.
Omaha had one of their best shooting nights of the season, making 6 of 12 three point shots and hitting on 46% from the field overall, but couldn't slow down the Bison, who made 55% of their shots for the game, including 64.7% in the fourth quarter.
