OXFORD, Ohio – (RV) Omaha Hockey (10-10-0, 6-4-0 NCHC) heads to Ohio for its first in-conference road test in the 2025 portion of the regular season when it takes on Miami (3-15-2, 0-10-0 NCHC).
The Mavericks play two games at Goggin Ice Center, with the first on Friday, Jan. 17, and then concluding on Saturday, Jan. 18, with puck drop set for 7:05 p.m. ET/6:05 p.m. CT for both contests. Watch the game on NCHC.tv and listen to the Varsity app or 1290 KOIL AM.
Omaha is on its longest-ever win streak against Miami, with eight dating back to Jan. 20, 2023, when it beat the RedHawks 4-1 at Baxter Arena. Forward
Matt Miller leads all Mavericks since the streak began with six points (3G-3A) in six games. Among active Omaha skaters, graduate forward
Brock Bremer leads the way with four points (1G-3A) in four games.
The Mavericks have won four straight games at Miami's Goggin Ice Center in Oxford, Ohio.
Omaha is 3-1 in January and has won four of its last five overall. Last week, the Mavericks swept then-No. 13 Colorado College thanks to a Friday night hat trick from graduate forward
Brady Risk and 10 combined points (5G-5A) from him and his linemates, freshman
Myles Hilman and graduate forward
Harrison Israels.
Risk enters play riding a three-game point streak (4G-1A), tied for the second-longest active streak among NCHC graduate students.
The Medicine Hat, Alberta's four goals since Jan. 1 are tied for the third most in the nation. Risk also earned his first-ever NCHC honor when he was named NCHC Forward of the Week for Jan. 6-12 after recording his second collegiate hat trick on Jan. 10 and tied the conference high in points for last week after he recorded four (3G-1A) overall in the sweep of the Tigers.
The fans at Baxter Arena also saw two stellar outings from junior goaltender
Simon Latkoczy, who appeared in his 70th collegiate game (69th start) to open the series and his 70th start on Saturday night. Latkoczy made a combined 75 saves on the weekend and faced 78 shots.
It is worth noting that among all active Division I goaltenders, Latkoczy's two shutouts make him the only netminder to record more than one shutout against the RedHawks.
Latkoczy won his fifth NCHC Goaltender of the Week honor for Jan. 6-12 after allowing only four goals to then-No. 13 Colorado College during Omaha's sweep on Jan. 10-11.
Graduate forward
Jimmy Glynn enters play with seven points (5G-2A) in 12 games against Miami.
Glynn's five goals against the RedHawks are tied for the fifth-most among active skaters in the nation. Two of his five goals were game-winners, which are tied for the most among active players.
Next week, the Mavericks return to the Kemp Ice at Baxter Arena when they host No. 15 St. Cloud State in a two-game series with puck drop set for 7:07 p.m. in both games.
