Sep 6, 2024

ASHLAND, Neb. - Omaha cross country finished fifth Friday to begin the 2024 season at the Platte River Rumble - Gold meet. Junior Kamryn Ensley paced the Mavericks with a 5000m time of 17:56.11 to finish third individually out of 87 finishers.

"Really excited about where we will go from this race," said head coach Cliff Cisar. "We have a lot to gain in the coming weeks and as training becomes more specific and our racing sharpens, we are going to be quite exciting to watch."

Freshman Reece Ewoldt of Nebraska-Kearney led the field with a time of 17:50.51. The Lopers took the top prize out of eight competing teams. Fellow Summit League member South Dakota finished second, followed by NW Missouri.

Omaha's Meredith Richter and Molly Caruso finished in the top 30.

Cisar continued, "Kamryn Ensley had a very solid start to the year." Her confidence is higher after her summer and she is showing some leadership that is allowing her to expand on her role every day. Meredith Richter, Molly Caruso, Carrington Hessen and Maya Bergstrom ran very savvy races for freshmen and we saw a glimpse of what they will be able to together as the season progresses."

"As always, we are grateful for the support of our administration and support staff who made it out, and thank you to the Omaha Sports Commission, Creighton cross country and Mahoney State Park for their involvement," Cisar concluded.
