ASHLAND, Neb. – Omaha cross country kicked off the season with a seventh place finish at the Platte River Rumble Gold at Mahoney State Park on Friday.
Freshman
Briley Early led the Mavs across the line with a 16
th place finish and a time of 18:07.88. Following her was
Meredith Richter with a time of 18:23.57 in 28
th place.
Hope Riedel finished in 32
nd place with a time of 18:31.08.
Litzey Fredette and
Bridget McGill were the final runners in scoring position. Fredette finished with a time of 19:01.32 in 49
th place and McGill finished in 68
th place with a time of 19:34.27.
The average time for the top five runners was 18:43 with a spread of 1:26. The Mavs were in sixth place at the first kilometer mark, but fell to seventh by the third and finished in that spot.
Two Mavericks set personal records on the course. Richter beat her previous best by approximately 14 seconds and and
Ainsley Anderson shaved approximately nine seconds off her previous record. Both Richter and Anderson set their previous records at last season's Platte River Rumble Gold.
Omaha will stay in-state for its next meet. The Mavs will take on the Woody Greeno Invitational hosted by Nebraska on Saturday, Sep. 20.
