Omaha Athletics announces a leadership change for the Women's Track and Field program.
"This evening, I informed Chris Richardson, the student-athletes, and coaches in our women's track & field and cross-country programs of my decision to make a change in leadership for the head coach position," said Adrian Dowell, Vice Chancellor / Director of Athletics.
"I ask the Maverick community to join me in thanking Coach Richardson for his many contributions to Omaha Athletics," Dowell said. "During his tenure as head coach, Coach Richardson represented UNO well and was instrumental in transitioning the program to the Division I level."
Richardson became head coach of the Omaha track and field and cross-country programs in 2013 after serving as an assistant coach for the previous seven seasons. During his tenure at the Division I level, the Mavericks finished runner-up at the 2013 Summit League Indoor Championships and third in 2014. Prior to that, as an assistant coach he helped guide the Mavericks to some of the most successful seasons in program history at the Division II level and was honored as the 2011 USTFCCCA South Central Regional Assistant Coach of the Year.
Cliff Cisar, who serves as the Cross-Country head coach and assistant coach of track and field, will serve as interim head coach.
"As part of this leadership transition, we will conduct an assessment of the track and field program to determine an optimal operational and personnel arrangement to position our student-athletes to achieve more competitive success" said Adrian Dowell, Vice Chancellor / Director of Athletics. "Following this, we will efficiently go through the search process to identify the next leader of the track and field program," Dowell said.
