Vermillion S.D. - The Mavericks only competed in two events on day one of the Summit League Outdoor Championships as Tania Gleason and Emma Klein both advanced to the finals on Saturday.
Although there was not much action as a whole team on day one, there were still many personal records by those who did compete.
"There was a lot of action in a short time frame today as only two events were live today for us," said head coach Cliff Cisar. "It however didn't stop from it being incredibly exciting as two ladies (Tania Gleason and Emma Klein) made finals in their respective events. Emma made some incredible progress in her secondary event amongst the conference's best."
In the 200-meter prelims, Tania Gleason ran a wind-aided personal record of 24.15 seconds (+2.3 m/s). Gleason finished in ninth place, qualifying for the finals.
Ashley Ostrand and Avyn Urbanski also ran personal record times in the 200 meters. Ostrand finished in 25.45 seconds.
Urbanski finished in 24.68 seconds, which now ranks her ninth all-time in program history.
In the long jump, Emma Klein advanced to the finals with a mark of 5.52 meters (18'-1.50") and a ninth place finish.
"The small crew that competed on the track all left today with personal records or races that would be based on wind legality," said Cisar. "We are excited about tonight's momentum and look forward to carrying that into tomorrow and Saturday!"
The second day of the Summit League Outdoor Championships is set for May 16 at the Lillibridge Track Complex in Vermillion, South Dakota.
