No. 9 Mavericks Take on No. 8 Roos in the Summit League Tournament

The Omaha Mavericks head into the Summit League Tournament in Sioux Falls, SD as the No. 9 seed where they will take on No. 8 Kansas City on Friday, March 8 at 4:30 p.m.

Quick Hits
    • The Mavericks will head to Sioux Falls with a 7-22 overall record, having gone 3-13 in conference play and 2-12 on the road. 
    • Omaha ended their regular season on a high note as they defeated the St. Thomas Tommies 79-62 on senior night. 
    • Polina Nikulochkina paced the Mavericks with 20 points, going 6-of-10 from the field and 7-of-10 from the free-throw line. Also hitting double-digits tonight were seniors Aaliyah Stanley (18) and Deanay Watson (12). Cora Olsen led with seven rebounds and five steals. Grace Cave and Kennedi Grant each added three assists. 
    • Omaha outshot the St. Thomas on the field 53.8% (28-of-52) to 35.7% (25-of-70). The Mavericks also shot better from the arc, going 35.3% (6-of-17) to just 9.1% (3-of-33). Omaha also outshot UST on the free throw line 81.0% (17-of-21) to 75% (9-of-12).  
    • The Mavericks are averaging 17.48 free throws made per game, ranking them second in the country, sitting just behind LSU. 
    • With 73.4 average points per game, the Maverick's scoring offense ranks them 57th among all D1 teams. From the three-point line, Omaha is shooting a .349 to place them in the top 50 nationally. 
    • One thing that has been consistent for Omaha this year has been their bench points. With an average of 25.2 points per game, the Mavericks rank 28th in the country. 
    • Grace Cave has gone 79-of-96 on the free throw line, averaging .823, ranking her 85th across all D1 players. Cave also leads the team in points (335), assists (94), blocks (12), and steals (41).
    • Watson, who leads the Mavericks in rebounds (123), recorded her first double-double with Omaha against ORU. 
    • In the victory over South Dakota, Morgann Gardner notched her first double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. 
    
    
Scouting the Kansas City Roos
    • The Roos have taken the No. 8 seed in the Summit League Tournament this year. 
    • KC finished the regular season 12-19 overall, going 3-13 in conference play and 2-10 on the road. 
    • They last played Oral Roberts where they fell 94-56. The Roos were plagued by turnovers throughout the game, putting up 22 giveaways, which ORU converted into 31 points. Kansas City forced eight turnovers by ORU, but was only able to score three points off of turnover. It was a fast-paced game and the Roos were able to attempt 71 shots, but made just 24 for a 33.8% clip from the field.
    • Phillips' double-double was the second of her collegiate career and her first as a Roo. She matched her career-high of 11 rebounds and her mark of four blocks beat her previous high of two, reaching three times throughout her career.
    • Contreras reached double-digit scoring for the 17th time this season, the third game in-a-row, and the eighth time in the last ten games. Contreras leads the Roos with 313 points. 
    • Carter earned her first start of the year and played a season-high 27 minutes, reaching double-digit scoring for the first time as a Roo.
    
    
All-Time Against Kansas City 
Omaha trails in the all-time series against the Roos 8-10. This will be the third time this season the two teams have matched up. The Mavericks trailed in both contests this season, going 88-74 in January and then 72-56 at home in February. Last season Omaha defeated the Roos 69-60 in the Semifinals of the Summit League Tournament, giving them a shot at the championship title.
