Hockey picks up overtime win at No. 9 St. Cloud State

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Omaha Hockey (6-7-0, 4-3-0 NCHC) grabbed a 4-3 victory over No. 9 St. Cloud State (9-5-0, 3-2-0 NCHC) in overtime at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center on Friday night to extend its win streak to three games.

Omaha has also won four of its last five games.

The Mavericks are now 4-1-1 in their last six games in St. Cloud, Minn.

"An excellent start to the game for us," head coach Mike Gabinet said. "It was not the best second period for us, but the group responded well to an outstanding third period. They're finding a way to win in overtime."

No power play goals were scored in the contest, and the Huskies edged the Mavericks in shots on goal 34-29.

The game started in Omaha's favor as graduate forward Jimmy Glynn ripped off an absolute rocket 9:01 into the first period to take a 1-0 lead.

Defenseman Warren Clark scored 4:20 into the second period to tie the game at 1-1. However, at 12:13 in the middle frame, senior forward Zach Urdahl netted a goal in his first game since Nov. 15.

Forward Tyson Gross then netted back-to-back goals within two minutes for St. Cloud State to take its first lead of the night.

However, as the third period began, Urdahl got to work, tying the game only 22 seconds into the final frame.

Despite three combined power play opportunities between the two teams in the third period, nobody found the back of the net, pushing the game into overtime.

1:48 into overtime, Sam Stange found himself racing ahead of two Huskies to rip a shot from the left circle, which found its way through goaltender James Gray.

Stange extended his point streak to five games, a career-high. The Eau Claire, Wis., native has tallied nine points (5G-4A) during his streak.

Junior goaltender Simon Latkoczy made 31 saves in the evening, and in his sixth game, he made 30 or more saves.
