Mavericks travel to Big 10 opponent Wisconsin

OMAHA, Neb.- The Omaha Mavericks travel to Madison, Wisconsin to face the Badgers in the first meeting between the two schools in women's basketball history.

Tip-off from the Kohl Center is 1 p.m. CT on Saturday, 11/23. Pre-game on the Omaha Sports Network from Learfield begins at 12:45 p.m. CT.  Brent Weber handles the play-by-play for the Mavericks.

Omaha (1-3, 0-0 Summit League) is coming off a road loss at Kansas, 75-56 (11/14). In that game, senior Grace Cave (Weeping Water, Neb.) led all scorers with 21 points along with seven rebounds, five assists and two steals. It was Cave's second consecutive 20 point effort. Sophomore Cora Olsen (Omaha/Millard South HS) added a season-high 15 points. 

Wisconsin (4-1, 0-0 Big 10) followed a 79-57 loss at Summit League favorite South Dakota State with home wins over Milwaukee, 82-45, and UIC, 61-57. 

Omaha is led by Cave (15.8 ppg, 4.5 rpg, team-leading 11 assists) and freshman post Harriet Ford (11.3 ppg, 10.5 rpg, two double-doubles). Ford (Perth, Western Australia) is shooting 54% from the field, second to fellow freshmen Kyana Weir (Perth, Western Australia) and Paige Horne (Scottsbluff, Neb.) at 57%.  Olsen is third on the team in scoring (8.5 ppg) followed by senior Aaliyah Moore (Milwaukee, Wisc.) (7.5 ppg, 5.5 rpg) and sophomore Ali Stephens (Fort Wayne, Ind.) (7.5 ppg), who leads the Mavericks in three-point shooting (8-15, 53%). 

The Mavericks play four Power Five schools (Nebraska, Kansas, Wisconsin, Oklahoma), the last coming December 22 at Oklahoma.

MAVERICKS--BIG TEN HISTORY
Omaha has never played Wisconsin and is 0-5 against Big Ten opponents since the school's transition to Division I. Including non-DI results, Omaha is 1-6 against the Big Ten (Nebraska joined Big Ten in 2011), the lone win a 64-54 defeat of Iowa on January 29, 1982.

SCOUTING WISCONSIN
Thursday night at Kohl Center, the Flames trailed by four points late in the game before Wisconsin held on for the win, improving to 4-0 at home this season. Williams had a double-double (20 pts, 14 reb). After hosting Omaha, Wisconsin travels to Mexico to play three games in the Cancun Challenge (11/28-11/30).

Junior forward Serah Williams surpassed 1,000 career points in Thursday's game at home against UIC. Williams averages a double-double (19.8, 11.3 entering UIC game). Williams, a standout on both ends of the floor, was named to the Preseason All-Big Ten Team, following up her 2024 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year award with unanimous first-team All-Big Ten honors.
