Mavericks face Big 12 foe at Kansas Thursday

LAWRENCE, Kan.- The Omaha Mavericks travel to Lawrence, Kansas to face the Jayhawks, seeking their first win over a Big 12 foe in the school's DI history.

Omaha (1-3, 0-0 Summit League) is coming off a tight loss at home to Western Illinois, 89-83. In that game, 6-3 freshman center Harriet Ford (Perth, Western Australia) amassed her second straight double-double. Omaha won their previous game, pounding St. Mary 108-45 for their first win of the year.

Kansas (2-0, 0-0 Big 12) has claimed their first two wins on their home floor at Allen Fieldhouse, topping Lindenwood 56-43 (11/6) and Sam Houston State 66-51 (11/11).

Omaha is led by senior (Weeping Water, Neb.)  Grace Cave (14 .0 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 6 assists) and Ford (14 ppg, 11 rpg), Two others average double figures: Kyana Weir (10.5, 5 assists) and  sophomore Ali Stephens (10.0. 3.0). Stephens leads the team in three point shooting (8-14, .571), already eclipsing her career marks. Aaliyah Moore had a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds against College of St. Mary.

The Mavericks play four Power Five schools (Nebraska, Kansas, Wisconsin, Oklahoma), the next coming November 23 at Madison, Wisc.


MAVERICKS-JAYHAWKS HISTORY

Omaha has never beaten Kansas. The most recent meeting between the to schools came in Carrie Banks' second season at the helm of the Mavericks, an 81-56 loss (11/17/21) In that game, it was a close game at half, with Kansas leading 37-30. But the Jayhawks took control in the third en route to the win. Three current Mavericks played in that game. Katie Keitges started  and hit 3-6 threes for 9 points and dished out 3 assists. Grace Cave scored 8 points with two rebounds, while Morgann Gardner pulled in two rebounds.

Tip-off at Allen Fieldhouse is 6:30 p.m. CT and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.
