MANKATO, Minn. – No. 16 Omaha hockey is slated for its first regular season contests with No. 18 Minnesota State on Friday, Oct. 25 at 7:07 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 26 at 6:07 p.m. since 2015 when the two battle for the "Spirit of the Mavericks" trophy on Midco Sports Plus.
This will be the Mavericks' first series in a visiting team's home arena when it takes the ice sheet at Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center on Friday night.
Senior forward
Zach Urdahl enters the weekend with three goals in four games played this season. The forward leads Omaha in goals, is tied for the lead in points, and has scored four goals in his last seven games dating back to March 22, 2024.
Junior defenseman
Jacob Guevin enters the series tied for the team lead in points (1G-2A) and is also tied for the Omaha lead in game-winning goals (1) with Urdahl.
The pair of programs have played two exhibition games over the past two seasons. Omaha has won both of the exhibition contests, winning the first one 7-2 on Oct. 1, 2022, at Baxter Arena and a 1-0 win last Oct. 7 in Mankato, Minn.
These teams have not met in the regular season since Oct. 2015 when Omaha swept Minnesota State in a two-game series in Mankato, Minn.
Omaha has won three of the past four contests against Minnesota State dating back to Oct. 2014, outscoring this weekend's home team 14-9 in the past four. Over the past two seasons in two exhibition games, Omaha has outscored Minnesota State 8-2.
Omaha heads into a bye week next weekend. The Mavericks will return to action when they host Western Michigan in the NCHC opening series on Friday, Nov. 8 and Saturday, Nov. 9 with puck drop set at 7:07 p.m. for both games.
