Omaha Begins Three Game Homestand with Oral Roberts

LEADING OFF 

After a 1-0-1 start to conference play, the first-place Mavericks return to Summit League action as they welcome the Golden Eagles of Oral Roberts to Caniglia Field for a rematch of the 2022 Summit League Championship on Thursday, Sept. 28. 

QUICK KICKS 

  • The Mavericks earned a 2-0 win over the Fighting Hawks of UND on Thursday and followed that up with a 2-2 draw at NDSU on Sunday. 

  • Omaha picked up four points over the two-game North Dakota road trip and leads the Summit League with a record of 1-0-1 after the first week of conference play. 

  • Sophia Green was named TicketSmarter Summit League Co-Offensive Peak Performer of the Week after a two-goal weekend in North Dakota. Green shared the honor with NDSU's Kelsey Kallio. 

  • Green has scored a goal in each of the last three matches. Sophia leads the Summit League with eight goals and 18 points through 10 matches after scoring in four-straight games earlier this season. 

  • Regan Zimmers picked up her first two points of the year with an assist in each of the games at North Dakota and NDSU. 

  • Grace Crockett tallied her third assist of the year at NDSU on Sunday and now shares the team-lead with Alyssa Kellar. Crocket and Kellar are tied for fifth place among league leaders with three assists over 10 games. 

  • Goalkeeper Emma Konsmo recorded her fourth shutout of the season at North Dakota. Konsmo has started all 10 matches for Omaha, garnering the second best save percentage in the Summit League at .800. The sophomore from Carlsbad, Calif., is averaging 4.4 saves per game. 

  • Omaha was tabbed third in the Summit League Preseason Poll after finishing third in the regular season last year. Grace Ostergaard and Regan Zimmers were named Players to Watch. 

  • Head coach Tim Walters enters his seventh season at the helm. He has recorded 47 wins on the pitch, including three Summit League semifinal wins, one Summit League championship and a NCAA Tournament appearance. 

  • Five newcomers joined the Mavericks this season, including four freshmen and one redshirt-sophomore transfer. 

SCOUTING THE ORAL ROBERTS GOLDEN EAGLES 

The Golden Eagles of Oral Roberts are in seventh place after an 0-1 start to conference play. ORU fell to second-place Denver by a score of 1-0 in the mile-high state on Saturday. The Golden Eagles are 3-4-3 overall with wins over Tulsa, Kansas State and Tarleton State. Oral Roberts has one opponent in common with Omaha, as Oklahoma defeated ORU by a score of 4-2 earlier this season. The Mavericks recently defeated the Sooners 2-1 at Caniglia Field. 

GOLDEN EAGLES TO WATCH 

• Gabrielle Abbey leads Oral Roberts with three goals and seven points over 10 starts. Abbey collected a season-high three points in the Golden Eagles' 4-0 victory over Tarleton State with a goal and an assist against the Texans. 

• Samantha Guzman has two goals and two assists on the season, ranking second on the team with six points. Guzman also tallied a goal and an assist against Tarleton State. The junior scored her first goal of the year at Oklahoma. 

• Goalkeeper Alexa Riefer has started eight matches for the Golden Eagles, averaging 2.00 goals against with a save percentage of .714. Riefer has made 40 saves this season and leads the Summit League with an average of 5.00 saves per game.  

SERIES HISTORY 
Omaha leads Oral Roberts 6-5-1 over 12 meetings. The Mavericks and Golden Eagles played to their first draw in series history in the 2022 Summit League Championship match. Omaha would emerge as the winner, going 3-1 in penalty kicks to take the league title. Prior to the championship match, the Mavericks had won the last five meetings with the Golden Eagles.
