Omaha Mavericks Head Coach
Mike Gabinet announced the signing of former Chicago Blackhawks / Rockford IceHogs Developmental Goaltending Coach /Assistant Coach Peter Aubry as Associate Coach today.
Contributions to the team included running small-group skill sessions, scouting opponents offensive and defensive tendencies, and evaluating the IceHogs' scoring chance situations. Aubry also Developed
Super Chances analytics for the organization to evaluate scoring chances.
"Peter Aubry is a great addition to the Mavericks, and we are very excited to have him here in Omaha with us," Gabinet said. "The amount of experience at the professional and Division I level he is bringing with him will make an immediate impact on our program and culture."
Last season under his leadership, six goaltenders in Anton Forsberg, Kevin Lankinen, Collin Delia, Arvid Soderblom, Dylan Wells and Jaxson Stauber made their NHL debuts. In the 2021-22 campaign, Soderblom was voted Co-MVP of the IceHogs.
The Mavericks newest coach played a vital role helping players like Matt Tomkins and Kevin Lankinen establish national team roster spots. Tomkins played for Team Canada in the 2022 Olympics and the IIHF World Championships. Lankinen took home a gold medal for Finland in the 2019 IIHF World Championships. In 2016, he coached Michael Leighton to an AHL All-Star Game nod.
Aubry made a two-week appearance behind the Blackhawks bench in November of 2021 where he helped three-time Stanley Cup winner Marc Andre Fleury post a .939 save percentage in that span.
Prior to joining the Ice Hogs in 2015, Aubry served as an assistant coach at Lake Superior State University in 2014-15 and at his alma mater, Mercyhurst University from 2011-14. A 2002 graduate of Mercyhurst, Aubry earned a bachelor's degree in accounting & finance. In 2018, Aubry secured his master's degree in organizational leadership from Mercyhurst as well.
