Mavericks Drop Series Opener to Huskies

Box Score The No. 14 Omaha Mavericks will look go regroup tomorrow night after falling to the No. 6 St. Cloud State Huskies tonight 6-2.

The Huskies jumped out to a 4-0 lead tonight before Matt Miller buried a highlight reel goal, slicing and dicing his way through the St. Cloud State defense. Miller's unassisted lamplighter at 7:43 of the 2nd period was his 11th of the season. He sets a career high for single season goals with the tally. At the 13:12 mark of the 3rd period, senior forward Jack Randl found the back of the net for his team leading 18th goal of the season.

Freshman netminder Simon Latkoczy allowed more than two goals for the first time since his second start of the season on October 15 against Lake Superior State. The streak spanned 12 games and included a pair of shutouts.

"It's easy to make excuses or to feel bad for ourselves but that doesn't help us, so we have to take the feedback from this game and we have to grow. Individually and collectively, and that's what we'll do," Omaha head coach Mike Gabinet said.

The Mavericks and Huskies will wrap up the weekend tomorrow night from Baxter Arena with puck drop slated for 7:07 p.m.
