No.14 Mavericks to Engage in Battle with No. 6 St. Cloud State in Regular Season Home Finale

This Week
    The No. 14 Omaha Mavericks are primed to take on the No. 6 St. Cloud State Huskies in their final home series of the regular season.

The Teams

    The Mavericks are sitting at 17-10-3 (12-6-2 NCHC) after sweeping the Miami RedHawks last weekend in Oxford, Ohio. The Mavericks currently sit in third place in the NCHC with 38 points. Omaha comes into the weekend winning nine of their last 11 contests.
    St. Cloud State enters this weekend's series with an 18-9-3 (10-7-3 NCHC) record. The Huskies were in Grand Forks last weekend taking on the North Dakota Fighting Hawks. They fell in overtime on Friday night and tied in the series finale the following night. SCSU took the extra NCHC point winning the shootout 1-0.

Last Time Out

    The Mavericks and Huskies have not met yet this season. Omaha took three of the four meetings against the Huskies last year including an overtime win in St. Cloud when the Huskies were the top ranked team in the country. The Mavericks swept the final series last season at Baxter Arena, outscoring the Huskies 10-3.

All-Time vs. St. Cloud State
    The Mavericks and Huskies are primed for meetings 45 and 46 this weekend. The all-time series is currently  27-15-2 in favor of SCSU. When the game is played in Omaha, the all-time series sits at 8-9-1 in favor of the Huskies.

Consistency Is Key
  
 Sophomore forward Ty Mueller has recorded points in 23 of the 29 games he's played in. He is currently 2nd on the team in points with 25. Mueller has recorded at least one point in 18 of his last 23 games. 

Mighty Miller
    Miller became the 20th player in program history to score goals in four straight games. He joins Jack Randl as the only other Maverick to accomplish that feat this season. His 21 points is a career high for the junior forward. His first two seasons as a Maverick, he posted 13 points.

Mighty Miller II
    Miller's 10 lamp lighters this season ties his career high. His 10th goal came on the power play last weekend at Miami in Friday's game. It ended up being the game winning goal, his second of the season.

Among The National Leaders 
    The Mavericks 25.0 power play percent is good for 9th in the country currently. Omaha has lit the lamp on the power play in eight of their last 11 games. Omaha is 12-5-2 when scoring a power play goal.

Among The Conference Leaders 
    Nolan Sullivan (.597), Jake Pivonka (.563) and Cam Berg (.557) sit 2nd, 6th and 7th respectively in NCHC faceoff win%. Omaha is the top ranked team in the NCHC in faceoff winning percentage at .540 percent. That is good for 5th in the NCAA.

Seeing Multiples
    The Mavericks have had 13 players register multi-point games this season. 1-Fust, Lemay, Slipec, Sullivan. 2 - Pennington, Pivonka. 3 - Guevin, Mueller, 5 - Berg, Miller, Weiss, Tychonick.  9 - Randl.

The Middle Frame
    The Mavericks are outscoring their opponents 42-25 in the 2nd period this season. They have 84 more shots than their opponents, outshooting them 356-272 in the second 20 minutes. The Mavericks are 12-2-1 when leading after 40 minutes of hockey.

Jonny Rockets
    Graduate defenseman Jonny Tychonick is having the best season of his collegiate career. The Calgary, Alberta native ranks third on the team in points (24) and currently leads all Maverick blueliners in goals (8), assists (16) and points. His previous career high in points was 11, which he set in his sophomore season at North Dakota. Tychonick's 24 points is good for 5th among NCHC blueliners. Tychonick scored the games opening goal last Friday against Miami, burying on a breakaway.

Simon Says
    Rookie netminder Simon Latkoczy is 9-2-1 on the season. He currently holds the top save percentage in the NCAA at .935%. His 1.77 goals against average is the second best mark in college hockey.

On Their Best Behavior
    In 30 games, the Mavericks have taken 114 penalties, 3.80 per game. That is the least amount of penalties taken among NCHC teams. The next closest team is Colorado College with 125.

    Junior netminder Dominic Basse has the third best save percentage in the NCHC at 2.12 and the fourth best save percentage at .919.
