Mavericks Host USD in First Home Conference Game

The Omaha Mavericks are set to host the South Dakota Coyotes on Sunday, Dec. 31 at 2 p.m.

Quick Hits
    • The Mavericks return to Baxter with a 4-8 overall record and  0-1 conference record. 
    • Omaha fell to Denver on Friday 81-63. Omaha was led by Aaliyah Stanley and Kennedi Grant who both put up 20 points in tonight's game. Polina Nikulochkina and Grace Cave paced with six rebounds each, and P. Nikulochkina led with three assists. The Mavericks trailed in field goals (36.4%, 24-of-66 vs. 53.6%, 30-of-56) and three-pointers 31.3% (5-of-16) vs. 48.1% (13-of-27). Though trailing in field goals, Omaha led free throws 76.9% (10-of-13) to 66.7% (8-of-12).  
    • Watson has a career-high three blocks and tied her season-high seven rebounds against TCU.
    • Alison Stephens had a career-high two steals against TCU. 
    • Liz Martino debuted with the Mavericks against Texas Southern, scoring eight points for the Mavericks.
    • Against Texas Southern, Kennedi Grant scored a 20-point, 10-assist double-double. For new season-highs in points and rebounds, both just one short of tying her career highs. 
    • Omaha ranks eighth among all Division 1 programs for free throws made per game (18.0) and attempts per game (24.45). 
    • As all the Mavericks got time on the court against TCU, they continue to show their depth with a bench point average of 30.9, for the 14th best in the nation. 
    • The Maverick's offense, averaging 76.4 points per game, ranks 56th nationally and second in the league. 
    • Stanley having gone 32-of-36 on the line this season, holds a .889 free throw percentage and ranks 30 of 250 ranked in the nation. 
    • Stanley paces the team with 123 points, averaging 11.2 per game, and holding a .451 field goal percentage. Going 17-of-34 she holds a team-high .500 three-point percentage. 
    • Leading the Mavericks in total and defensive rebounds is Grace Cave with 48 and 39, respectively. Watson paces offensive rebounds with 14. 
    • Grant continues to lead in assists with 37, averaging 3.4 per game. With 17, Grant also leads the team in steals.

Scouting the South Dakota Coyotes
    • South Dakota comes to Omaha with a 10-4 overall record. After falling to NDSU in the conference opener, USD also holds a 0-1 conference record. 
    • USD last played North Dakota State where they fell 69-84. Evans set the tone early by scoring the first seven points in the game as South Dakota had three turnovers in its first four possessions. South Dakota cut an 18-point deficit down to nine at the half with senior forward Tori DePerry scoring seven of her nine points during the final four minutes of the second quarter.
    • The Coyotes average 75.6 points per game and have a 13.1 scoring margin over their opponents. 
    • With a 30.6 bench point average, USD ranks 14th nationally. 
    • South Dakota averages .458 on field goals and .347 behind the arc. On the free throw line, the Coyotes go .728 (193-of-265).
    • The Coyotes out-rebound their opponents by a 4.7 margin. Though trailing -0.5 on turnovers, they score more on the turnovers than opponents. 
    • Grace Larkins leads the Coyotes in nearly every category including points, rebounds, assists, and steals.

The Mavericks trail in the all-time series 35-53 against the Coyotes. Currently, USD is on a 12-game win streak against Omaha dating back to Jan. 20, 2018.
