No. 20 Mavericks Head North and Resume NCHC Play with Minnesota Duluth

This Week
    The No. 20 Omaha Mavericks return to NCHC play this weekend when they hit the road to take on the Bulldogs of Minnesota Duluth.

The Teams
    The 8-3-1 Mavericks return to NCHC play this weekend against the UMD Bulldogs. Omaha is coming off a home-and-home sweep of the Augustana Vikings. The Mavericks controlled the game Friday night and came away with a 2-1 victory. Omaha followed up Friday's performance by lighting the lamp five times the next night in Sioux Falls to down the Vikings 5-2.
    Minnesota Duluth was idle last weekend and didn't see any competition. Their last action was a pair of road one goal losses to the St. Cloud State Huskies. They dropped Friday's game 2-1 and battled the Huskies hard the following night before falling 6-5. UMD enters the weekend 3-7-3 and winless in four NCHC games.

Last Time Out
    The Mavericks and Bulldogs met four times last season with Omaha taking 11 of 12 NCHC points from their conference rival. The Mavericks and Bulldogs split in their first series last season up in Duluth. UMD traveled to Omaha in January where Omaha greeted them with a series sweep.

All-Time vs. Minnesota Duluth
    The Mavericks and Bulldogs are primed for their 48th and 49th meetings all time. The all-time series record is 28-15-4 in favor of Minnesota Duluth. When the game is played in Duluth, UMD is 15-4-3 all-time against the Mavericks.

Right in the Muellhouse
    Junior centerman Ty Mueller had a five-game goal streak from 11/4-11/19. With his 2nd period goal in the Sunday game against DU, Mueller became just the sixth player in program history to light the lamp in five consecutive games joining Jeff Hoggan (2001-02), Scott Parse (2005-06), Brandon Scero (2005-06), Ryan Walters (2012-13, twice), Josh Archibald (2013-14).
    Playing in all 12 games, Mueller leads the Mavericks in points with 10 (5-5=10). His five goals is also a team best. Mueller has only taken one penalty this season and sits 9th in the NCHC with a 54.2 faceoff win percentage.

The Moose is Loose
    Saturday, November 4, with 40 seconds remaining in overtime against No. 11 Western Michigan, Junior blueliner Victor "Moose" Mancini netted the OT game winning goal for his first career goal.

Going to the Polls
    The Mavericks re-entered the USCHO.com poll this week coming in at No. 20. Earlier this season, they entered the top 20 after their idle week but fell out after a loss and a tie to Ohio State the following weekend. Omaha is the first team out in the USA Hockey poll receiving 34 votes.

Lighting the Lamp First
    The Mavericks have had a favorable outcome this season when scoring the first goal. The Mavericks are 8-2 on the campaign when they strike first and 0-1-1 when allowing the first goal.

100 Club
    The Omaha Mavericks bench boss reached to century mark in career wins last Sunday after the Mavericks defeated the No. 3/2 Denver Pioneers 4-3 on the road. Gabinet is currently in his 7th season at the helm of the Mavericks.
    On the ice, senior forwards Matt Miller and Jimmy Glynn each played in their 100th career games last weekend in a Maverick sweater.

French Connection
    The sophomore defensive pair of Jo Lemay and Jacob Guevin were a mainstay for the Mavericks on the blueline last season. They picked up right where they left off last season combining for two goals (1 GWG) and five assists over opening weekend. Through 12 games, they've combined for five goals (3 GWG) and 10 assists. Lemay's three game winning goals leads the NCHC.

Facing Off
    Nolan Sullivan finished second in the NCHC for faceoff win percentage.Sullivan went 322-235 in the circle for a .578 win percentage. Omaha was the second ranked team in the NCHC in faceoff winning percentage at .530 percent.After 12 games, Omaha sits behind only North Dakota (.551) in faceoff win percentage at .546 percent. Omaha's faceoff percentage is good for 7th in the NCAA.
    Sullivan currently ranks fourth in the NCHC in faceoff winning percentage at 59.3 while Mueller sits 9th with a 54.2 percentage.

Seeing Multiples
    The Mavericks have had 15 players register a multi-point game this season. Michael Abgrall (1), Brock Bremer (1), Ray Fust (1), Jimmy Glynn (1), Jacob Guevin (1), Jesse Lansdell (1), Jo Lemay (2) Griffin Ludtke (1), Tanner Ludtke (3), Victor Mancini (1), Ty Mueller (3), Kirby Proctor (1), Jack Randl (1), Tyler Rollwagen (1) and Zach Urdahl (1) have all registered multi-point games.

Simon Says
    The Slovakian netminder has backstopped the Mavericks to five of their eight wins this season. His 2.70 GAA and .903 save percentage ranks 5th in the NCHC.Latkoczy's 24.50 saves per games is good for 8th in the conference.

The Opponent
    Minnesota Duluth was idle last weekend and didn't see any competition. Their last action was a pair of road one goal losses to the St. Cloud State Huskies. UMD's losses have come against some of the highest caliber teams in the country in North Dakota, Minnesota, Cornell and St. Cloud State.

Special Teams
    UMD is 52/67 (77.6%) on the PK through 13 games played. That ranks last among all NCHC teams and 51st in the country . On the opposite, UMD has the number one power play in the NCAA. It's currently clicking at 34 percent.

The Sin Bin
    UMD is averaging 5.77 penalties per game which is the most in the NCHC. Through 13 games, the Bulldogs have taken 75 penalties and is averaging 13:27 in the penalty box, which also leads the conference.

Players To Watch
    Sophomore forward Ben Steeves leads the Bulldogs with 13 points in 13 games played. His seven goals also paces all Bulldogs with six of his goals coming on the power play. Steeves six power play goals is tied for the conference lead with DU's Jack Devine.
    Quinn Olson sits second on the team with 12 points. Through 13 games, he's recorded two goals and 10 assists.
