Mavericks to Host Cal State Bakersfield on Monday

The Omaha Mavericks return to Baxter for their first home game of the week against the Cal State Bakersfield Runners. As a part of the doubleheader Monday, Omaha women's basketball will tip off at 5 p.m.

    • The Mavericks enter the home game with a 1-4 overall record. At home, Omaha has gone 1-2.
    • Omaha comes off a nail-biting 92-86 loss against Wichita State. 
    • Against the Shockers, the Mavericks took the lead with the first basket in the second quarter and held it until late in the fourth. In a last-minute push to take the lead back, the Mavericks fell behind when the final buzzer sounded. 
    • During the road game, six different Mavericks put up double digits in points. Polina Nikulochkina led the scoring, pacing the Mavericks with 18 points, going 5-of-7 on field goals and 7-of-11 on free throws. Nikulochkina also led the team with three steals and one block.     • As the Mavericks show their depth on the roster, they move up to 18th in the nation and first in the Summit League for bench points (31.8).  
    • Though Ghaifan does not meet the requirements yet to be nationally ranked, her field goal percent of .875 surpasses the nation's leading shooter with 78%.
    • The Mavericks were tabbed sixth in the Summit League Preseason rankings after a 15-17 campaign in 2022-23. The team owned an 8-10 mark in conference play, including wins against North Dakota State, North Dakota, and Denver, and was 5-10 on the road. 

Scouting the Cal State Bakersfield Runners
    • The Runners come into Omaha with a 2-3 overall record and have gone 1-2 on the road. 
    • They fell in their last game against New Mexico State 64-59. 
    • In their five games, they have not scored more than 65 points in a game. 
    • On the season, CSUB carries a -8.8 scoring margin and a .355 field goal percent. 
    • CSUB goes .305 behind the arc, averaging 7.2 three-pointers per game. On the free-throw line, they shoot a .571, going 40-70 this season. 
    • The Runners have been out-rebounded this season, holding a -5.2 margin. 
    • In five games, they made 19 blocks, averaging 3.8 a game.
