Mavericks Improve to 7-3-1 after Controlling 2-1 Victory Over Augustana

Nov 24, 2023

Box Score The Omaha Mavericks improved to 7-3-1 after defeating the Augustana Vikings 2-1 in tonight's opening contest of this weekend's home-and-home series.

Omaha took control early when Ray Fust tipped home his third goal of the season just 2:14 into the night to take a 1-0 lead on the Vikings. Defenseman Noah Ellis and centerman Tyler Rollwagen tallied the helpers. Ellis' primary assist is his first point in a Maverick sweater.

Despite Mavericks heavily outplaying Augustana through 40 minutes of hockey, Omaha wouldn't strike again until the 10:37 mark of the 3rd period. Jacob Slipec took control of a loose puck, waited until he had a clear path and rifled a shot into the back of the net for his first lamp lighter of the campaign. Rollwagen recorded his second assist of the night while Victor Mancini registered the secondary.

With 4:56 left in regulation, Augustana scored their first goal of the night while on the power play. Omaha would shut them down for the remainder of the period to lock up their fifth non-conference victory of the season.

The Mavericks improve to 6-0-0 in one-score games and 7-2-0 when scoring the game's first goal.

Omaha won both the shots on goal and faceoff battles tonight. The Mavericks out shot the Vikings 31-26 while going an impressive 62.7 percent on the dot winning 32 of 51 draws.

Omaha and Augustana will wrap up the weekend tomorrow night in Sioux Falls to conclude this home-and-home series. Puck drop slated for 6:07 p.m.
