Women's Basketball Closes Out Home Stand vs. Oral Roberts

The Mavericks look to get back in the win column this Saturday when they wrap up their home stand with a 2 p.m. contest with Oral Roberts in Baxter Arena.

Quick Hits
  • The Mavericks lost their third game in a row Thursday when they were taken down by Kansas City 64-55. With this loss, they drop to 9-12 with a 4-6 mark in the Summit League. The two teams have split the season series, with Omaha winning the initial meeting 75-64 on New Year's Eve.
  • The Mavericks were outshot by the Roos in every category as they trailed Kansas City in FG% (47.2%, 25-for-53 to 33.9%, 20-for-59), 3-PT FG% (50.0%, 5-for-10 to 17.4%, 4-for-23), and FT% (81.8%, 9-for-11 to 61.1%, 11-for-18). One stat Omaha did sufficiently best the Roos in was in bench scoring, as the Mavericks got 16 points from their bench while Kansas City received zero.
  • Elena Pilakouta led Omaha with 16 points on Thursday, shooting 6-for-11 (.545) and earning her 17th double-digit scoring game of the season and her seventh in a row. With 285 points (13.6 PPG) overall, she remains seventh in the conference in scoring and second in FG% at .608 (118-for-194). Earlier this season at ORU, Pilakouta had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
  • Polina Nikulochkina broke her four-game scoreless streak with nine points vs. Kansas City and also had five rebounds to tie her career high. She now sits at 94 points (4.7 PPG) and 48 rebounds (2.4 RPG) on the season. At Oral Roberts back in December, she set a season high with 19 points, including four 3-PT FGs. 
  • Kennedi Grant inched even closer to the 200-point mark after adding nine more on Thursday to give her 185 this season. She also led Omaha with seven boards and four steals, giving her 64 total rebounds (3.4 RPG) and 32 steals. Grant missed Omaha's previous meeting with ORU this season with an injury.
  • Sam Mitchell started her first game of the season Thursday night after previously making 18 appearances off the bench. She blocked the first shot of her Omaha career in the third quarter. 
  • Aaliyah Stanley scored five points against the Roos to officially cross 250 on the season (251), while Grace Cave added six more points after hitting the 200-point mark last week.
Scouting the Golden Eagles
The Golden Eagles enter this game at 9-12 overall with a 6-4 record in the Summit League. After losing their first two conference games to South Dakota State and South Dakota, they have since gone 6-2, including a 75-63 win over Omaha on December 29.

ORU won both games at home last week vs. North Dakota State (75-53) and North Dakota (96-91), before opening their road trip with a 93-83 win over Denver on Thursday.

Senior guard Hannah Cooper is currently the top scorer in the Summit League with 422 points (20.1 PPG). She also leads the league with 46 steals and ranks in the top five in assists (88), FG% (.465), and FT% (.824). Cooper has topped 30 points three times this season, including a 39-point effort at UNLV, and has only finished with less than 10 points once. Against Omaha this year, she scored 19 points, shooting 7-for-7 from the line, and had three assists.

Sophomore forward Tirzah Moore leads the league with a .634 FG% (97-for-153), placing her at seventh in the entire NCAA. Her 11.1 RPG (189 total rebounds) pace the Summit as well, and she is second in blocked shots with 27. Moore has 11 double-doubles this season, including one against the Mavericks, and has had a 20 rebound game at WIU and a 30 point game at NDSU. 

Head Coach Kelsi Musick is in her first season leading the Golden Eagles. Before ORU, she spent 13 seasons leading Division II Southwestern Oklahoma to a 259-125 record and a 2019 National Championship.

All-Time Against Oral Roberts
Omaha is 3-12 all-time against ORU and is currently on a four game skid in the series. Earlier this season, the Mavericks opened Summit League play at Oral Roberts, falling 63-75.
